BREAKING: The US deficit is now up to $1.97 trillion in the first 11 months of FY2026, the 4th-largest deficit at this point in the fiscal year in history. This is already higher than the full-year FY2025 deficit of $1.78 trillion. In August, the US Treasury's budget deficit technically fell -$178 billion YoY, or -51%, to $167 billion. This comes as government outlays dropped -$162 billion YoY, to $527 billion, but the decline was largely due to a calendar shift, as August 1st fell on a Saturday, pushing Medicare and Social Security payments normally made on the first of the month into July. However, adjusting for these payments, which account for some of the largest federal outlays, the monthly deficit rose +$7 billion YoY, to $248 billion, according to the US Treasury. The US is on an unsustainable fiscal path.

A single bird has just accomplished one of the most extraordinary feats in the animal kingdom — flying nearly one-third of the way around the Earth without stopping to eat, drink, or rest. The record-breaker is a five-month-old Bar-tailed Godwit that flew nonstop from Alaska to Tasmania, Australia. Covering 8,425 miles in just over 11 days, it set a new record for the longest nonstop flight ever documented in any bird. What makes this journey even more astonishing is that it was the young godwit’s very first migration. The entire route took place over the open Pacific Ocean, with no chance to land. Despite that, the bird navigated thousands of miles of featureless water with pinpoint accuracy. This incredible endurance is made possible by remarkable physiological adaptations. Before takeoff, the godwit packs on enormous fat reserves — nearly half its body weight — to fuel the flight. At the same time, many of its internal organs, including parts of the digestive system, temporarily shrink to lighten the load and maximize energy efficiency. Unlike many seabirds that depend heavily on gliding, this godwit flapped continuously for the entire journey, battling shifting winds and weather systems the whole way. Researchers at the Pūkōroro Auckland Shorebird Centre say discoveries like this are transforming our understanding of migratory birds. Their astonishing endurance, navigation skills, and energy management demonstrate biological capabilities that can match — and in some ways surpass — even the most advanced human engineering.

Several companies have received the Tesla semi and either had them for a period of time for a pilot test or longer term and are using them in daily operations. Pepsico (including subsidiary Frito-Lay): They were the first to receive the initial prototype versions and continue to use them in daily operations. Martin Brower: Recceived two units in April/May 2024 for a pilot program. Unclear if they are still in possession of these. DHL: Received at-leat one unit in October 2024 for a two-week pilot. Confirmed 500-mile range with a full load and declared 'ready for prime-time'. SAIA LTL Freight: Received two units in January 2025 for deployment in their California operations. WattEV: Received two units in February 2025 for use at the Port of Long Beach. Plans to add 38 more by end of 2026. US Foods: Received at-least one unit in May 2025 as spotted by @HinrichsZane the Tesla Semi Advocate. Thyssenkrupp Supply Chain Services: Received at-least one unit in June/July 2025. Some people criticize all the government contracts @SpaceX gets, but the Pentagon said that SpaceX has saved the government over $40B. One SLS launch costs billions. One SpaceX launch costs less than $75M. SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell on SpaceX's $22B in gov contracts: "We earned that. We bid it, we were the lowest price, best bidder, we won and we execute. It's not a bad thing to serve the U.S. government with great capability and products." The people complaining that SpaceX's gov contracts were "wasteful" really have no clue what they are talking about. Starship (video below) will take savings to a new level and open up incredible opportunities.
