Notably, taste should be easier to develop than before. As it's easier to practice. We should all constantly be building, iterating and exploring.

LLMs are a new primitive. Not just something that's used to create software. But a new building block software is built around. Real-time generative video is another and will soon be ubiquitous in software, robotics and more. Limitless object storage and turnkey databases changed computing. Models will too. It's still early.

Now is the time to optimize for roles that are as AI native as possible. Bad roles are those at organizations that are AI skeptics and/or constrained in their adoption. You’ll stagnate. Better are roles at companies rigorously adopting the best models. This isn’t the time to slowly embrace. This is the era of unlimited token budgets and frontier models. Unfettered access is key. Best are small organizations that are training and deploying their own models. Even if you don’t work on training or inference directly, you’ll absorb by osmosis. These roles are highly coveted and sought after. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. There aren’t a lot of these opportunities. Things are changing fast. Now is the time.

Skills like /show-me and other mechanisms for turning Claude slop into something more decipherable are great — but not new. The best engineers were always those who invested in legibility before execution. The bash one liner, ad-hoc telemetry or log query that made the before and after crystal clear. This was the gap between 10x engineers and the rest before and still is. Agents both widen that gap (because both legibility and the end result can be achieved more quickly) and make it more accessible (before you had to know what question to ask and how to cook up a bash one liner).

To understand where Runway is going, you need to understand two things: 1. Soon everything you see on a screen, and eventually everything a robot sees, will likely be generated on the fly by a model. The frontier is already moving from generating code, language, and content to generating worlds. This is an expansive frontier. 2. If you believe this, you play an infinite game, and that requires a different strategy than a finite one. An underappreciated part of building a company is that the game horizon you choose attracts a distinct kind of person to work on a distinct type of problem.
