The only beginner roadmap I will ever post (important learning advice at the end): I've been getting too many requests for it in DMs, so here it is. (All resource links provided at the bottom) Step 1. Learn Solidity + how Ethereum works. I did the Cyfrin Updraft Foundry course. It will also be helpful to read some parts of the book 'Mastering Ethereum', especially Chapters 1,2,6. Step 2. Learn security. The Cyfrin Updraft Security course is amazing. Patrick will guide you through the entire process of auditing a codebase. When you (inevitably) miss a bug, figure out how to never miss it again, and make a note of it somewhere. Don't just gloss over it. For more practice, work on CTFs like Ethernaut, or @onlypwner. At this stage, other than the practical learning, you should also be absorbing as much knowledge as you can. Watch relevant Youtube videos (Owen Thurm, Opensense), listen to podcasts (JohnnyTime, 'Proof of Podcast'). For me, @Milotruck's podcast with JohnnyTime was the most helpful when starting out. Don't overdo the content consumption though, the most effective way to learn is through deliberate practice. Step 3. Practice auditing. Jump into an audit contest. @CodeHawks and @sherlockdefi are the best platforms for beginners, because you get to see other people's findings immediately when the contest is over. To improve, you've gotta reflect on exactly why you missed the other findings, and what mental patterns/heuristics you could have had during the audit to spot the findings. Now the most important part: The more discomfort you experience, the better. When you learn something (whether in a course, or while auditing), you have to try your best to understand it TO THE CORE, not at a surface level. Be hands-on with your learning, test things in remix IDE freely, don’t just passively read information and assume you’ve learned it. It is challenging to learn things deeply, but it is hard for everyone, you just have to stick to it. If you’re brain doesn’t feel fried after a learning session, you’re probably aren't making much progress. That's it- I hope this helps you, and I want to emphasize that last bit. You can go through all the courses and CTFs but if you're cutting corners and skipping the hard parts, you WILL be overtaken by the people who don't.
