Prompts tell agents what to do. They can't enforce what's permitted. Enforce permissions in the workspace, identity, network, and tool layer — then test those controls directly.

TypeSafe says Jev "can't hallucinate." That zero is a schema guarantee, not a measurement. A well-typed answer can still be wrong.
Jev returns decisions, not text — $0.042/M tokens.

I gave a personal agent named Fo its own phone number and let it book a table. It called, got asked to call back, and asked the hostess what time worked best. That recording is why I wrote this.

I rebuilt my delivery pipeline as AgentMachinist — one workflow, five agents, same commit and tests. The intervention count matters more than steps completed. Why do you step in?

Thanks to @OmarchyLinux and @dhh I can use a smooth and capable linux on my 2017 MacBook Pro - complete with sound! The sound was thanks to grok 4.7 doing its thing, but it loaded up the right drivers, played test sounds to tweak the mic settings, and I am good to go. The last time I tried resurrecting this thing, I was google hell trying to find the right driver/magic words combo to make it work.
Ran a web server off my 386 in 1995. Linux powered everything I built — just never my desk. Omarchy on a ThinkPad: 2-min install, fingerprint reader worked. The product is the defaults. vinny.dev/blog/2026-09-1…
In 1995 my 386 PC with 32 MB of RAM ran my university's first web server. This week an old laptop from a drawer became my desktop in 2 minutes.
Linux ran everything I built in between and never made it to my desk. Omarchy changed that. Thanks @dhhvinny.dev/blog/2026-09-1…
Neal Sample introduced me to "the New Jersey approach" when he was CIO at Northwestern Mutual. I went looking for where the phrase came from and found Richard Gabriel's 1990 essay, "The Rise of Worse Is Better." Gabriel wrote it to make his own side look bad, then admitted in the same paper that the other side would win.
I reread it this week with a new question. Coding agents have made implementation cheap. Does the case for shipping less still hold?
My first answer was yes, because someone still has to review the code. That was too narrow. A simple implementation can leave every caller with more to understand, test, and maintain. AWS's idempotent APIs are the clean example: the service does more work so that every client can retry safely with one rule.
So the question I ended up with is the one in the title. Simple for whom?
Judge simplicity by the total work required to verify, use, change, and operate the system. Count what lands on callers, reviewers, operators, and users, not only what the implementer typed.
The full essay, with the Gabriel argument, the AWS example, and the same trade-off inside a one-person Mac app:

When you last called a design "simple," whose work were you counting?

Your switching cost is somebody else's margin.
Hyperscalers cheapen accelerators. Nvidia floods open weights. Chinese labs replace American APIs. Stripe bought OpenRouter. Who owns which layer when it settles? vinny.dev/podcast/
Nobody pages the agent.
A gate proves a standard ran. It does not prove anyone can operate the result at 3 a.m.
New essay on why operability belongs in the spec. An agent will happily draft your runbook. It will not carry the pager.
