Rep. Jimmy Panetta @RepJimmyPanetta

Applications for a service academy nomination are due October 23! It’s always an honor to nominate outstanding high school seniors and recent graduates from CA-19 to attend our nation’s service academies, where they can prepare for lives of leadership and service to our country. panetta.house.gov/services/milit…

Restricting Ukraine’s access to Starlink’s military service as Russia rains down missiles and drones on its cities is despicable and dangerous. Reports that the order came from inside the White House demand a full investigation and accountability for those responsible. This Administration must restore full service, stand against Putin’s aggression, and stand with the people of Ukraine. reuters.com/world/europe/o…

I condemn yesterday's attacks by extremist Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians and a Washington Post photographer in the West Bank. Prime Minister Netanyahu must take immediate action to stop this violence, protect Palestinian communities, and ensure those responsible are investigated and held accountable. Continued inaction endangers lives and undermines security and lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians. washingtonpost.com/world/2026/10/…

An envelope containing a suspicious white powder was delivered to my Santa Cruz district office and opened by staff this morning as part of her normal daily morning routine responding to constituents. Upon realizing that there was powder in the envelope, she immediately put the envelope in the garbage can, cleared fellow staff members out of the office, and called 911. My priority is the safety and security of my staff and, thankfully, she and the other staff have been initially cleared by medical officials. I’m grateful to local law enforcement and first responders for their swift response. Threats, fearmongering, and violence against public servants have become far too common over the past decade and undermine our democracy. But these attempts to intimidate us will not deter us from doing our job. Despite these difficult circumstances, we remain committed to our democracy by continuing our service to the people of California’s 19th Congressional District.

Great to join local early-childhood educators at Cabrillo College Children’s Center & Lab School to celebrate my bipartisan SEED Act being signed into law.  Pre-K teachers often dip into their own pockets to purchase classroom supplies, yet until now, they were denied the same federal tax deduction available to K-12 teachers. My commonsense law closes that gap by expanding the $350 educator expense deduction to include early childhood educators.

Congress created the research tax credit to bolster innovation, not subsidize tech companies' construction of data centers in our communities. That’s why I’m leading a bipartisan coalition of my colleagues to demand answers from the IRS on whether companies, like Meta, actually qualify for these tax breaks. nytimes.com/2026/09/30/tec…

Terrible to hear about the attempted mass shooting at the Hindu temple where @CongressmanRaja and his family were worshipping. We must work hard to stop that type of abhorrent and violent hate and stem the rising threats against Indian American and Hindu communities. I’m grateful to the coworkers who alerted authorities and the law enforcement officers who acted accordingly to stop the violence, keep people safe, and secure the place of worship.

My family and I were worshipping at our Hindu temple in Aurora on Sunday when a white supremacist attempted a mass shooting targeting Indian Americans. I'm grateful to those who helped prevent a tragedy, but we must come together to confront the hatred that put so many innocent

Grateful to local healthcare leaders for discussing the challenges CA-19 seniors face accessing care through Medicare. With open enrollment beginning today, October 15, I’m committed to strengthening Medicare so seniors who worked hard and paid into the program can get access to reliable healthcare. ksbw.com/article/panett…

Inflation reached 3.7% in September, as we pay more for fuel, food, and fertilizer than we did a year ago. This Administration’s Iran war and trade wars are only raising costs further. Congress must reclaim its constitutional authority by passing the BAD DEAL Act to rein in these harmful tariffs and passing further war powers resolutions to end this war of choice with Iran. wsj.com/economy/cpi-in…

Do you or a family member need help fixing an issue with Social Security, Medicare, Veterans Affairs, Passports, IRS tax refunds, USCIS/immigration, or another federal agency? I’m here to help. Tomorrow, Thursday, October 15, I'll be holding office hours in South San Jose from 1:30 PM-5:00 PM. Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please submit a request, which does not guarantee an appointment, and a staff member will follow up to confirm whether there is space in the schedule for us to meet. Brookdale residents should have reliable local postal services. That’s why I brought together local leaders to press USPS to halt its study of permanently closing the Brookdale Post Office and take concrete steps to restore service in that community. pressbanner.com/panetta-local-…

The Pentagon once again revised the death toll from the War in Iran, acknowledging 21 deaths. Our fallen service members and their families deserve better. That’s why I co-lead bipartisan legislation to require transparent and accurate military casualty reporting and ensure every fallen service member receives the deserved honor and recognition. washingtonpost.com/national-secur…

Medicare open enrollment begins October 15, but too many seniors in CA-19 are finding that having coverage doesn’t guarantee access to care. I brought together local healthcare leaders to discuss provider shortages and the challenges seniors face finding a doctor. I’m fighting to strengthen Medicare so seniors can have access reliable healthcare. santacruzsentinel.com/2026/10/09/loc…

With the Golden State Valkyries headed to the WNBA Finals, I’m glad a solution was reached to move Games 3 and 4 in Atlanta to a 17,000-seat arena. Planning to hold championship games in a 3,500-seat venue was a disservice to the players and fans who deserve a stage worthy of this exciting series. Can’t wait for Finals basketball in Ballhalla. Go Valks! sfchronicle.com/sports/article…

Any use of federal law enforcement to target political rivals right before an election can be a dangerous abuse of power. A legitimate and lawful law enforcement investigation is one thing, but any use of that power for political or personal reasons is not just abuse, it also undermines public trust in law enforcement and our government. washingtonpost.com/nation/2026/10…

With Medicare open enrollment beginning October 15, seniors deserve coverage they paid into and care they can access. As our senior population continues to grow in CA-19, I’ll continue working to strengthen Medicare for patients and physicians so more seniors can find a local doctor and get the care they need.

Glad to be a part of another town hall with local homeowners about my work in Congress to represent our CA-19 community at the federal level.

As an Italian American, I’m extremely proud of my family’s heritage and the generations who came to this country seeking a better life for their children. Today, we recognize the hard work, vibrant culture, and enduring contributions of Italian Americans to our nation. I’ll continue working in Congress and our communities to ensure others have those same opportunities to achieve the American Dream.

Today, we recognize the enduring strength, resilience, and contributions of our Native American communities that have shaped the character of our nation for generations.

When disaster strikes, working families should not have to worry about whether they can afford to rebuild their homes. That’s why I support the Community Disaster Protection Act to help high-risk communities close coverage gaps and expand access to affordable insurance. I’ll continue working in Congress to help our communities in CA-19 prepare for disasters and recover when they strike.
